MINISTER FARUK ÖZLÜ ATTENDS THE PANEL HELD BY ROYALCERT
Giving a speech at the panel “Elevator Safety in Turkey” organized by RoyalCert, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Faruk Özlü said, “We aim that each elevator goes through a periodic control once a year”. The dinner-panel on “Elevator Safety in Turkey” held at Marriot Hotel Asia in Istanbul, Ataşehir, on November 5, 2016. During the panel moderated by RoyalCert General Manager Ziya Keskin, the opening speech by Faruk Özlü, the Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, was followed respectively by: Erol Ferhat - MSIT Head of the Industrial Products Safety Department, Adnan Köşker - Gebze Mayor, Kayıhan Cabıoğlu-TÜRKAK Deputy Secretary Manager, Sefa Targıt -AYSAD Vice Chairman, Ömer Terzi - IBB Boğaziçi Yönetim A.Ş. ELEVATOR TECHNICAL COMMITTEE TO CONVENE ON DECEMBER 22
The Elevator Technical Committee (ASTEK), the most effective enterprise of the elevator industry bringing the public- and private-sector institutions together, will convene on December 22. At the meeting, forming a sub-committee within ASTEK will be brought into question. Involving the top-five A-type inspection bodies in Turkey in this commission and the differences between the inspection institutions in the commission will be discussed. The final declaration of the Elevator Symposium held in Izmir in October also indicated that ASTEK Elevator Technical Committee and the commission formed by the Ministry are required to become functional.
ASFED’S PREPARATORY TRAININGS FOR VQA EXAMS CONTINUE
Pursuant to the Elevator Management, Maintenance and Periodic Control Directive, it is mandatory for the technical staff working for elevator maintenance and repair companies to obtain VQA Elevator Maintainer and Repairer and Elevator Installer Certificates until March 25, 2017. The Elevator Industrialists’ Federation (ASFED) has accelerated its efforts in this scope. ASFED had started its preparatory trainings before the Vocational Qualification Tests with BURSAD on October 22-23, 2016. The trainings given averagely for 2 days in 25-people classes at Elevator Maintainer and Repairer Level 3-4 will be continued in Istanbul and Denizli.
EMO STARTS TO CERTIFY AUTHORIZED ENGINEERS
At the 45th Ordinary General Meeting of the TMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers held on April 1-2, 2016, it was resolved to establish an independent Personnel Certification Institution (EMBK). Within this context, EMBK (EMO Personnel Certification Institution) accredited by TURKAK in October has started its operations as a structure where engineer authorizing certificates will be obtained and accredited and tests will be held. In doing so, EMO has started to certify authorized engineers. From now on, tests for Engineer Authorizing Certificates will be held and the certificates will be provided by EMBK.
TASIAD ORDINARY GENERAL MEETING HELD AT İLERI GROUP
TASIAD Ordinary General Meeting was held at İleri Group Şekerpınar’s headquarters, one of the member companies, on Thursday November 17, 2016, with the participation of the Technical and Educational Committees. İleri Group General Coordinator Ebru İleri and Elevator Sales Representative Dilek Öztürk share their opinions and remarks on the industry and the association’s activities with the Board of Directors. The attendees walked around the production plant of İleri Group. TASIAD decided to hold the ordinary board meetings from now on at the member companies’ headquarters in order to increase the cooperation, synergy and interaction in the industry.
ETA-MELCO OPENS A BRANCH IN IZMIR
Operating in Turkey since 1988, Eta-Melco – Mitsubishi Electric Elevator has opened a branch at Bayraklı Tower in Izmir, which also bears its own elevators. Thus Eta-Melco – Mitsubishi Electric Elevator opens its fourth branch in Izmir after the ones in Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya excluding its technical offices. In doing so, it will be able to provide services such as any kind of architectural solutions, technical support, new elevator sales, maintenance and technical services, etc. for both existing and future projects in Izmir and the neighbouring cities through the fully-extensive İzmir branch.

The Emporis Skyscraper Award 2015 regarded as the world’s most reputed prize in high-rise architecture goes to the Shanghai Tower in China, the world’s second tallest building. The last year’s winner was Wangjing SOHO in Beijing.The 632-meter tall Shanghai Tower was chosen as the winner for several reasons, including it's elegant spiraling cylindrical shape which was designed by Gensler Architects. Shanghai Tower also has the world’s fastest elevator. Evolution Tower developed by Rönesans İnşaat wins the runner-up prize. The third-placed building is Il Dritto (The Straight One) in Milan.
EAYSAD DRAWS UP A RECOGNIZANCE FOR THE INDUSTRY
EAYSAD (Aegean Elevator and Escalator Industrialists’ Association) held its traditionalistic Breakfast Organization at Barınak Bahçe, İzmir on Saturday November 26, 2016. The organization was participated by the members and other associates. During this meeting with huge participation, it was declared in writing that the members and associates would be sensitive enough about preparing and implementing a Recognizance that would be drawn up with Codes of Conduct on which all the segments would agree. To this end, it was resolved that a common effort and necessary announcements will be made to cover also those associates who did not attend the meeting.
MERIH, BECOMES THE FIRST COMPANY TO OBTAIN ISO 9001:2015 QUALITY CERTIFICATE FROM TÜV
With the issuance of the new version of “ISO 9001 Quality Management System” certificate in 2015, which it has been holding since 1998. Merih Asansör has accelerated its own revision efforts concurrently. It successfully completed the management standards inspection period which had started in December 2015 and it obtained the “ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System” certificate as the result of the re-certification inspection carried out by TÜV. Merih Elevator is the first company to receive ISO 9001 Quality Management System certificate from TÜV.
A HORIZONTAL ELEVATOR BEING PLANNED FOR YTU DAVUTPAŞA CAMPUS
Yıldız Technical University plans to set a rail system for its students to reach Davutpaşa Campus more easily. According to a report on hürriyet.com.tr, the project of the rail system intended to be set in Davutpaşa Campus will have a horizontal elevator system and a smart stop. The cars will move on pushing the button where necessary and have no drivers. Illumination will be ensured by solar power. YTU Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin stated that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality opens up to this project and it will be into practice as soon as a sponsor is found.
