AT İZMİR ELEVATOR SYMPOSIUM 2016, 26 PAPERS WERE PRESENTED

Elevator Symposium and Exhibition 2016, themed as “Buildings and Elevators” and organized by the EMO and MMO was held in Izmir at the MMO Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Centre on October 13-15, 2016. The Symposium, attended by almost 1.300 people, 447 of whom are delegates of MMO and EMO, offered an event during which the technical papers, as well as current issues, were discussed in detail. Twenty-six papers were presented throughout the three-day symposium. Nine sessions, two panels, two seminars, a “Director Contact Meeting” and an elevator training for children were held.

ASFED’S PREPARATORY TRAININGS FOR VQA EXAMS STARTS

First of the preparatory trainings before the Vocational Qualification Tests organized by the Federation of Elevator Industrialists (ASFED) started at BURSAD. The training which has received huge interest was given for 2 days in 25-people classes at Elevator Maintainer and Repairer Level 3-4 on October 22-23, 2016. The trainings whose first stage was given will be provided both at Elevator Maintainer and Repairer Level 3-4 and Elevator Installer Level 3-4 in the cities where the Federation-affiliated associations are located.

UNITED 2016: MONTREAL PLAYS HOST TO SUCCESSFUL JOINT CONVENTION

More than 2,400 industry members convened in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Sept. 19-22 for United 2016, a joint convention of three of North America’s major associations, the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC), the Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) and International Association of Elevator Consultants (IAEC). Held at the Palais des Congrès de Montreal Convention Center and Le Westin Montreal Downtown, the convention week began with board meetings and greetings, graduated to education sessions, association general business meetings and parties, and culminated in a two-day exposition with more than 190 exhibitors.

NEW GENERAL MANAGER FOR ETA MELCO

Ufuk Bayam, an experienced figure in the industry, will manage the Turkey operations of ETA Melco, which was established in partnership with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and has made its mark on the elevator and escalator systems of magnificent structures worldwide such as business centres, hotels and bazaars. Being assigned in various departments in the Turkey office of ETA Melco since 1997 and working as the Sales and Marketing Manager for the past six months, Ufuk Bayam was appointed as the new General Manager of the company.

EURO-LIFT AND LOKUM EXPO HAVE ENDED IN SUCCESS

After a two-year break, Targi Kielce's expo has again become the showcase for lifts industry companies and property management and maintenance companies; the expos were the display for 108 exhibitors from 18 countries include Aspar, Has Asansör and Sanel from Turkey. Nearly 2,000 joined the expos held from 18 to 20 October. The expos were the display for 108 exhibitors from 18 countries. This year's International Lifts Exhibition EURO-LIFT was for the first time accompanied with the Property Maintenance and Services Exhibition LOKUM EXPO.

MORE THAN 1,300 MACHINES SOLD AT MAKTEK EURASIA 2016

MAKTEK Eurasia 2016 was held at Istanbul TÜYAP on October 11-16, 2016. Bringing the machinery giants together under the motto “Industry 4.0 and Smart Production Engineering of the Future”, the fair welcomed over 60.000 visitors from 65 countries and 71 cities. At the fair where the leading machines of the new industrial revolution were exhibited for the first time, 30 experts discussed “Industry 4.0” for 1.200 minutes. At MAKTEK more than 1.300 tools and machines was sold, and a business volume of 1 billion liras was achieved.

2,260-FT.-LONG “SIGHTSEEING ESCALATOR” OPENS IN CHINA

The second phase of what is now a 2,260-ft.-long escalator, billed as the “world’s longest sightseeing escalator,” opened on October 1 at Enshi Grand Canyon in central China, various news outlets, including the U.K. Daily Mail, report. The US$5.26-million covered conveyance takes visitors down a steep hill in approximately 18 min. and is capable of transporting 7,300 people per hour. The opening of phase two coincided with the October Golden Week holiday. From October 1-7, 70,000 tourists, more than expected, used the escalator.

GEOFFROY DURANDET HAS BEEN WITTUR MANAGING DIRECTOR OF EUROPE

Wittur announces that on September 19th, 2016 Geoffroy Durandet was appointed as Managing Director of Europe. In his new Role within Wittur, he will be responsible for European Sales and Operations and drive Wittur growth in the European continent. CNR REAL ESTATE FAIR 2016 TO WELCOME MIDDLE EASTERN INVESTORS

The players within the real estate industry, one of the locomotive sectors of the Turkish economy, will gather at CNR EXPO for the “CNR Emlak - Real Estate Investment Projects and Financing Fair” to be held on November 17-20 and “CNR Istanbul Real Estate Summit” to be organized as part of the fair. LIFTECH EXPO SET FOR FEBRUARY

The dates of February 9-12, 2017, have been set for the LifTech Jeddah 2017 Expo, taking place at the Jeddah Centre for Forums & Events in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The regional elevator and escalator show covers the Middle East and North Africa and will feature international country pavilions from India, Egypt, China and Turkey. Vista Trade Fairs plans to host more than 200 exhibitors and 15,000 visitors attending from the construction and engineering fields.

ASFED DISCUSSED THE INDUSTRY’S LEADING AGENDA IN DETAIL

Monthly Ordinary Board Meeting of Elevator Manufacturers' Federation (ASFED) was hosted by TASİAD in İstanbul Titanic Business Kartal Hotel on 23 September 2016. In the meeting attended by 11 presidents of association affiliated to Federation, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Branch Manager of Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Industry, Şevki Şarlıoğlu shared his views about market surveillance and control (PGD) with participants. In the meeting, it was decided to be discussed about elevator shaft with the Association of Building Inspection Agencies and to give trainings for CEB’s (Central Executive Board) Professional Competence Examination and EN-81-20 standards.

TS EN 81-20/50 STANDARD TRAINING FROM ANASDER

Anatolian Elevator Assocation (the ANASDER), held a training on EN 81-20 / 50 standards. On September 7, 2016, the training held at Green Park Hotel Ankara was given by Serdar Tavaslıoğlu. Serdar Tavaslıoğlu prepared the training themed "Significant changes coming with standards” in order to prepare the sector to the new standards. Seminar, which the differences between the old standards and new standards were discussed, continued with mutual questions and answers.

DRAFT PROGRAM PREPARED FOR THE ELEVATOR SYMPOSIUM 2016

The main theme of the Elevator Symposium 2016 to be held by the Chambers of TMMOB Electrical Engineers and TMMOB (Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Achitects) Mechanical Engineers under the guidance of their Izmir branches has been set as “Construction and Elevators.” Twenty-six notices will be presented in nine sessions at the Elevator Symposium and Exhibition that will be held at MMO (Chamber of Mechanical Engineers) Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Centre on October 13-15, 2016. MAKTEK EURASIA 2016

MAKTEK Eurasia 2016 will be exhibited at the TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center in October 11-16. HYUNDAI ELEVATOR OPENS TO EUROPE FROM TURKEY

Making a strong entry into Turkey in 2010, Korean giant, Hyundai Elevator has obtained a majority share in 51% of the company by taking its decision of investment in Turkey a step forward with the partnership agreement. Having the highest success rate in our country except for Korea, China and India impacts on this decision. After partnership, continuing its activities as Hyundai Elevator Turkey, the company plans to expand its activity fields in future by taking place actively in foreign markets.

TASIAD CONVEYED SCHOOL PROJECT TO DISTRICT GOVERNOR OF KARTAL

TASIAD is quickly accomplishing the goal of building Elevator Vocational School. For this, visiting firstly Ankara Vocational and Technical Education General Directorate on 25 May 2016 and then Ömer Faruk Yelkenci Manager of Istanbul Provincial National Education, the Ministry of National Education; TASIAD met with Cemil AKSAK, District Governor of Kartal on 1st September. In the meeting with Ahmet Fikret Gökhan, Board Chairman of TASIAD, and Deputy Chairman with Betül Yılmaz, Education Committee Chair of TASİAD; Cemil AKSAK, district governer of Kartal, was informed about Elevator Vocational School which is planned to be built by TASIAD.

ELEVATOR REGULATION WILL BE DISCUSSED IN PRODUCT SAFETY WEEK

The third of Product Safety Week which began to be organized for the first time in 2014 will be celebrated between October 10-16 in this year throughout Turkey. In this week, seminars about product safety will be organized at least in two school in 81 province and various promotional materials will be distributed. In schools, the public spotlight with elevator animated film prepared by the Directorate General of Industry will be watched. iIn Izmir, Giresun, Ordu, Samsun and Elazig, seminars about the elevator regulations will be given.

THYSSENKRUPP ELEVATOR TURKEY REALIZES ITS NEW TRAINING CENTRE IN ISTANBUL

Thyssenkrupp Elevator Turkey maintains its operations for training well-educated employees with its training centre to be put into operation in Istanbul. The training centre will have elevator and escalator simulators, and train business partners and white- and blue-collar employees.Turgay Şarlı, Thyssenkrupp Elevator Turkey General Manager, stated that they have started working to transform a 6-floor building with an indoor space of 2,500 square meters into a training centre for the company.

TASIAD GIVES A SEMINAR FOR YTU STUDENTS

TASIAD organized a seminar including the introduction to the industry for the students of Yıldız Technical University, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering on August 12, 2016. At the seminar, Betül Yılmaz, TASIAD Vice President and the President of Educational Committee; Nijat Akdemir, TASIAD Board Member; and Ertan Koşar, TASIAD Secretary General of the Board, gave speeches. Yılmaz invited the seminar attendees to the Eurasia Elevator Exhibition to be held on March 22-25, 2017, for them to get to know the industry further.

SOCAR TOWER GRANTED THE “BEST OFFICE” AWARD BY ENR

The winners of ENR Awards held for the fourth time in this year by the international construction industry magazine Engineering News Record (ENR) Magazine, in which 18 projects from 15 countries in 5 different continents were evaluated, have been declared. SOCAR Tower, the tallest and the most technological building constructed by Tekfen İnşaat in Azerbaijan, was chosen as the “Best International Office Building Project of the Year” by ENR Global Best Projects Awards. MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC DELIVERS 174 UNITS TO THAILAND MRT

Mitsubishi Electric has delivered 49 elevators and 125 escalators to eight stations, an administrative office, an operational control center and car-parking facilities that are part of the Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) Purple Line connecting Bangkok to its suburbs. The order consists of heavy-duty escalators that conserve energy via sensors that switch speeds to low when no one is in the boarding area, and elevators with gearless traction machines that use energy-saving permanent-magnet motors to reduce noise and vibration. All products were manufactured by Mitsubishi Elevator Asia Co., Ltd.

MERIH ASANSÖR BECOMES THE FIRST COMPANY TO HAVE ISO 9001:2015 QUALITY CERTIFICATE FROM TÜV

Simultaneously with the issuance of the new version of “ISO 9001 Quality Management System” certificate in 2015 which it has been holding since 1998, Merih Asansör speeded up its revising efforts. It successfully completed the auditing process of management standards initiated in December 2015. In such a short while as six months with a dynamic transition, at the end of the recertification audit carried out by TÜV, it obtained the certificate of “ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System”. Merih Asansör is the first company to obtain ISO 9001 Quality Management System certificate from TÜV, an internationally-leading institution in the industry which services for industrial enterprises.

NEW ELEAVATOR DIRECTIVE ISSUED

The Elevator Directive 2014/33/AB drawn up by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology became effective published on the Official Gazette No. 29757 dated June 29, 2016. The aim of the directive regulating the requirements for elevators and the safety components of elevators, their market introduction and inspection is as follows: To identify the basic health and safety requirements to be met by the elevators and elevator safety components as well as the market introduction conditions for these products and market surveillance and inspection procedures.

SEMATIC MOVES INTO ITS NEW ADDRESS

HYUNDAI ELEVATOR SIGNS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH STFA GROUP

Signing a partnership agreement with STFA Group, Hyundai Elevator has taken its decision to invest in Turkey one step further. Through this agreement, Hyundai Elevator Co. Ltd. has acquired the company’s majority share of 51% while HMF Hyundai Asansör has been renamed as Hyundai Elevator Turkey. With this investment also covering production in our country, Hyundai Elevator aims at positioning Turkey as a centre to manage the surrounding countries.

THYSSENKRUPP TO TEST ITS ELEVATORS AT THE 246-METER TOWER

The works at the test tower built by Thyssenkrupp Elevator in Rottweil, Germany are maintained at a great pace. At the tower with a height of 246 meters, there are 12 elevator hoistways in which the elevators will be tested under the most challenging conditions. The tower also having an elevator completely moving in a glass hoistway to carry the visitors up to the observation deck is scheduled to be opened in May 2017.

ORONA ANNOUNCES LATEST EUROPEAN ACQUISITIONS

Hernani, Spain-based Orona announced it has acquired its fourth and fifth companies this year, Krakdzwig of Krakow, Poland, and Estrela Elevadores of Leiria, Portugal, expanding its European footprint further after previous purchases. Krakdzwig has been Orona’s authorized Polish distributor since 2002, and holds a sizable market share in Krakow with 65 employees. Estrela brings 500 lifts to Orona’s maintenance portfolio, and is Orona’s fifth acquisition in Portugal.

AND OFFICE TOWER IN ISTANBUL COMPLETED

AND Office Tower in Istanbul was recently completed. Featuring a split design, the 110-m-tall building is located in the Kozyatağı financial district. According to e-architect, it is named “AND” after the client, the multinational AEH Anadolu Real Estate Investments Group. This is the first major project in Turkey completed by HPP. It obtained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum certification upon completion and, prior to that, received a total of six prizes in the Cityscape and European and International Property awards.

KARABÜK MUNICIPALITY INSTALLS AN ELEVATOR UP TO THE HILL

After two elevators and an escalator which it previously built for facilitating the transportation for people living in the neighborhoods settled on the high locations of the city, Karabük Municipality has now installed an elevator for two adjacent neighborhoods. According to the article published on Milliyet, for the reason that the residents of Ergenekon and Yeşil Neighborhoods have great difficulty in climbing almost 100-meter stairs, Karabük Municipality has built a 27-meter-high elevator tower with 11 and 16 passenger capacity. The project costs 400 thousand liras.
