In honor of this being the 40th year for this event, 40 different subjects were discussed within the scope of the fair. World-famous architects and other experts from across the world talked about real estate, new products, innovation, design, architecture, job opportunities, the future of the construction sector, sustainability, occupational safety, marketing and careers. Exhibit space covering 100,000 m2 across indoor and outdoor areas was filled with 18,640 products, put on display by more than 1,000 participants, and were seen by the 82,427 visitors at the event. Companies representing the elevator sector included Günsan Elevator, Geta Group, Emak Elevator, Burak Elevator and Liftinstittuut.

Muhamed Ifriquine, Istanbul consul general of the Kingdom of Morocco, gave the opening speech in the fair, which was organized by YEM Fair. Ifriquine said he came to Istanbul about 25 years ago, and that it has changed significantly since then, becoming the dynamic city it is today. Underlining that the relationship between Morocco and Turkey, especially in the construction sector, is very important for his country, Ifriquine reminded those gathered that a free trade agreement was signed between the two countries in 2006. He said that Turkish builders have carried out important projects in Morocco, which has been appreciated. “The Moroccan market offers really significant opportunities,” Ifriquine said. “Morocco has indeed a small economy, but the construction sector is very dynamic: 8-10% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) consists of the construction sector.”

Ifriquine said that Morocco’s infrastructure has been renewed and highways and barrages have been built, many with the involvement of Turkish companies.

Burcu Başer, general manager of YEM Fuarcılık, said the North African countries hosted in the “Guest Region Project” of the fair this year represent fast-recovering, stable economic growth. Başer said, “Within the scope of the relevant project, we have guests from Morocco, which is a potential growth area for Turkish construction sector.” He noted trade in construction materials with Tunisia and Algeria.
